Building Alexandria

[My housemate Katie has insisted I dedicate this to her. Here you go, dearest.]

into tomes like Great pools
and minds like mines
they delve.
needs beyond the flesh
transcending mortality itself
for knowledge grants eternal life

after secrets they scuttle
long lost lessons and incantations
exhumed into their great store
the most magnificent Library in history

like termites, each too small
to be fully aware
Of the greatness they build

each willing to throw down their life
to defend the higher order
the hive must survive
the hive of all knowledge

[To be serious for just a moment, I’m honoured to be able to dedicate this to Katie, who starts her dream job tomorrow (selling antique books, just wow) and is the best housemate and friend I could ask for.]
